In 2018, Maxime Brygo spent several months traveling the southern plains of Vietnam, where the Mekong River flows. Originally from the north of France, he discovered another “flat land” which, like his own, was partly reclaimed from the sea. Alternating between color and black & white, he captures the transitional aspect of the landscapes as well as their ancestral symbolic charge. Like clues, Flatland gathers photographs of seemingly ordinary sites, striking in their strangeness, their aura. These places suggest secret uses, practices, rituals involving magical, telluric or cosmic forces which these images capture.
